Islanders and visitors gathered to celebrate all the things that make Gigha a wonderful location at the second annual Sound of Gigha festival.
Taking place at venues across the island from Friday June 7 to Sunday June 9, the festival brought a whole heap of entertainment to Gigha, with music, art, family fun, island heritage and well-being activities on the line-up.
Anna Massie opened the weekend with an evening of song, guitar, good craic and cheese at the village hall on Friday evening, which led into a crowd-pleasing club night.
Saturday was all about family fun and celebrating local talent in Ardminish, with a makers’ market, art gallery, children’s zone with Funky Chicken, climate parade and festival hub stage featuring the fabulous voice and banjo of Tanya Ward, the incredible Kintyre Young Voices and the dance floor-filling Esperanza.
The main gig of the weekend opened at the village hall in the evening with the fantastic Gunna Sound, clearly an island favourite, and headlined by The Poozies, who played a storming set before playing a second ceilidh set to keep the dancing going.
Sunday was a day of relaxation and well-being with the Swedish residents of Achamore House hosting a coffee morning, accompanied by the Gigha Ukelele Orchestra and Dark Skies spoken word by Vicki Husband.
Meanwhile, in the walled gardens, tai chi, forest bathing and a sound bath were helping revellers recover from the weekend, and Gigha Brewing were serving up some freshly brewed festival lager for those in need of refreshment.
“All in all, it was a fabulous weekend and the cold windy weather didn’t stop everyone having a great time,” said an event spokesperson.
“Thanks to all our funders and to all the local businesses, school children, community groups and residents of Gigha for volunteering, donating raffle prizes, getting involved and generally supporting us to make things happen.”
