Actors, directors and stagehands across Argyll are preparing for two nights of drama as the annual Kintyre Drama Festival returns to Campbeltown this month.
Organisers say a feast of theatre is in store for audience members, who are guaranteed two evenings of fun and laughter as five teams take to the stage in the Victoria Hall on February 22 and 23.
The festival gets off to a cracking start on the Thursday, with last year’s winners, Benderloch and North Connel, presenting “Nobody Sleeps”. This is a bright and breezy farce about a calm family with some odd habits.
Next, Dalintober Drama Club presents “Hoodwinked” – a comical musical version of the Robin Hood story, presented with all the exuberance the festival has come to know and love from this popular youth team from Dalintober Primary School.
Finally, Accent Players from Campbeltown present “Fate’s Thread”, a ghost story, murder mystery and a light comedy combined into one.
On Friday, the festival is delighted to welcome a new youth team from Campbeltown Grammar School. Pupils last entered a few decades ago.
“The Big Courtroom Drama” shows what happens when a group of drama students improvise a court scene – with their teacher in the dock.
The festival closes with another team which is new to the Kintyre festival – Taynuilt and District Drama Society – which will present an atmospheric drama set shortly after Macbeth’s death. This is an original play written by team member Anna Twigg.
Adjudicator Paul Dougall has the difficult job of choosing the winners.
The successful adult team will go on to the Western Divisional Final in Castle Douglas from March 28-30, while the Western Youth winners will appear in Dunlop Village Hall on March 24.
Tickets for Kintyre Drama Festival are available from AP Taylor on Main Street, Campbeltown, and at the Victoria Hall on the night.
An event spokesperson said: “Purchase your tickets now to ensure you don’t miss this drama extravaganza."
