The aspirations of Mid Argyll school children will be at the core of plans for Ardrishaig’s playing fields thanks to their participation in a community-wide survey.
Pupils at Ardrishaig Primary School have shared their hopes and dreams for the redevelopment of the village’s King George V park.
And their older friends and siblings this week had the chance to add their voices to the consultation when staff at Lochgilphead High School sent the survey to all pupils to be filled in during their registration class.
Hundreds of residents have already completed the survey which was drawn up by a community development consultant to garner public opinion on what is best for the park and to create a business plan built on the results of this consultation.
Secretary of the Ardrishaig KGV Community Park Association Blair Johnston told the Advertiser this week that engagement with the survey had been strong.
“The survey is progressing well with Ardrishaig Primary School pupils having filled out the survey with their ideas of what they would like to see as part of the project development,” he said.
“It is important that people don’t think that it doesn’t make a difference if they reply or not. It makes a huge difference; it gives us a collective voice to create much-needed local facilities.
"We have received several letters from various organisations, clubs and businesses in support of developing the sports and recreation facilities.”
The park association is now looking for local contractors to undertake initial work that is required before further improvements can be made.
Blair added: “Now we are beginning to engage with local contractors for quotes and tendering processes for the groundworks that need to be undertaken. If any local contractor would like to get in touch, we would appreciate that.
“We have also begun consultation for a new website for the park which will be updated regularly with all current goings-on so we can keep the community informed with progression.”
And, as the survey enters its final stages, the association is hoping that anyone who has yet to give their thoughts on the park’s future does so in the next few days at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ardrishaigschool or www.surveymonkey.com/r/ardrishaig
