Mowi Scotland and Scottish Sea Farms were celebrating after winning awards at The Aquaculture Awards recently.
The event, which celebrates projects, businesses or individuals making an exceptional contribution to the global aquaculture community, was hosted by broadcaster and comedian Fred Macauley.
David Lipcsey, Scottish Sea Farms, and Silvia Viale, Mowi both won the Aquaculture UK Rising Star Award.
The judges agreed that David’s technical skills and can-do attitude were instrumental in not just the day-to-day functioning of numerous Scottish Sea Farms sites, but also in the expansion of the business.
And as Mowi regional health manager, with responsibility for 25 marine farms, Silvia has made an impact through her dedication, expertise in fish health and welfare, and great interpersonal skills making them both very deserving winners.
The Mowi team also came home with a second accolade after winning the Aquaculture UK Community Initiative Award.
Judges said: “In one year alone, Mowi spent £633,000 supporting local communities – paying for swimming lessons for schools, waterproof clothing for nurseries, and enabling mental health and cancer charities to provide vital services. The company has also built homes, installed broadband and engaged with numerous deserving causes through its Salmon Wagon, making it a truly deserving winner of the Community Initiative award.”
Following the event a spokesperson for Mowi Scotland said: “The award is dedicated to all the Mowi team for their hard work, tireless effort in all aspects of community work, whether that be beach cleans, supporting events with the salmon wagon, hosting visits, school fairs or volunteering in their communities in the various rescue services.
“Writing the cheque is the easy part, it is all the additional work that Mowi and our teams support in other ways, so to receive the recognition is fantastic. Thank you to the judging panel for your votes and to Aquaculture UK for another fantastic conference and awards gala dinner.
“Congratulations to all the other finalists and winners.”
