A Lochgilphead florist is celebrating 10 years of creating moments and memories through her bouquets and arrangements.
Corrina Charlwood took over The Flower Shop, which used to be situated on Lochnell Street, in January 2016 and she now runs the business from her home on Glenburn Road.
After a decade of helping people mark their own milestones with flowers, business is still blooming.
She said: “I’m feeling very good and I’m glad I’m still here because a lot of wee businesses are disappearing.”
Before buying The Flower Shop, Corrina got a sense for business through various jobs, including working at her father’s haulage business for over 20 years and starting up her own private cleaning service.
She said: “I then decided I was looking for something different. When The Flower Shop came up I thought let’s go for it, and that’s where I’ve been for the past 10 years.”
Corrina well remembers her first day at the shop: “It was wet, it was snowy and I think I maybe had about one customer that day.
“I was sitting there and looking at the weather and thinking what have I done?” she said.
Luckily, after 10 years of putting smiles on people’s faces with her flowers, Corrina now looks back with pride at her accomplishments.
She added: “I’ve been going from strength to strength and there’s not really been anything that I haven’t been able to cope with.”
“I enjoy making up the arrangements, doing creative things when I can, and also being out and about and meeting different people as well.”
To celebrate the special 10-year anniversary Corrina ran a flower giveaway competition for customers.
“My husband didn’t get me flowers because he said I’ve got plenty,” she laughed.
Corrina strives to go the extra mile for customers and in the past has made lengthy journeys outside her usual delivery area to come to people’s floral rescue.
She said: “I’ll go out of my way to help people and I won’t see anybody stuck.”
For her, the hard work is all worth it when she receives positive feedback from senders and recipients of her flowers, particularly from happy brides.
Corrina frequently attends local markets and craft fairs and her current goal for the business is to start offering different products alongside her flowers at these events.
As for where the business will be in another 10 years, she said: “I’m not far off retirement age now, but if I can keep going, I’ll keep going and, if I’m still here in 10 years, I’ll be quite happy!”
