A pioneer of Scottish music who draws inspiration from her own life and cultural concerns, Mairi Campbell has a number of musical accolades to her name, including the 2018 Inspiration Award, alongside being included in the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
Having been referred to as a national treasure of Scotland, Campbell skilfully uses beautiful melodies and lyrics to deal with both serious and lighthearted subject matter, and her enticingly warm voice appeals to listeners of all ages and backgrounds
Mairi Campbell said: 'It will be great to play at The Victory Hall this autumn. Being part of Scotland on Tour, and putting on these concerts in lesser known venues is a real pleasure and it will be very special to get to know new spaces with their own acoustics and unique audiences. I can’t wait to get out and meet the community of Benderloch and the surrounding area this October.'
Campbell Cameron, promoter at Victory Hall, said: 'Mairi is a one-woman phenomenon! We have been so delighted that she chooses to come and see us in Benderloch on a regular basis. Being an Isle of Lismore descendant like us makes it like coming home. Her stories, music and dance resonate the area and she “becomes” the land, the sea, and the air that we all love. You can feel you are in a special place when you are with Mairi.'
Tickets for these and a raft of other shows are on sale now at www.scotlandontour.com. Scotland on Tour will take place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023.
Director of Active Events Lisa Whytock said: 'This new initiative is a bold vision for recovery for Scotland’s live music industry and an opportunity for artists, promoters and technical crews to thrive once again.
'The backlog of postponed and cancelled shows over the last two years has made it very difficult for artists to book new concerts and this is where Scotland on Tour comes in, providing much-needed opportunities for exciting acts to showcase their music.
'Gig goers will also have the chance to see the best of Scottish music right on their doorstep. This will be particularly beneficial to underused venues and rural performance spaces where we will be breathing life back into these fantastic settings.'
