A former South Kintyre councillor has vowed to continue putting pressure on the Scottish Government for a permanent solution at problems at the Rest and Be Thankful.
Donald Kelly has welcomed last week’s decision by the Scottish Parliament’s Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee not to close a petition calling for a permanent solution at the landslide-prone stretch of the A83.
The document, submitted by Mr Kelly while he was an elected representative of South Kintyre alongside Mid Argyll councillor Dougie Philand, also calls for a probe into the political and financial management of the project, as concerns grow about more than £100 million of public money being spent on mitigation measures.
Discussing the petition at a meeting last week, the parliamentary committee noted that progress is being made regarding a permanent solution, but has now asked Transport Scotland for more details about their proposals.
Mr Kelly said: “Given the constraints on existing budgets, it is vitally important the petition remains live. We will continue to campaign and raise awareness of the Rest issue until we see a permanent solution delivered.”
