Fèisean nan Gàidheal has been back on the road again with a fun-filled drama project aimed at Early Years GME pupils, welcoming them into the weird and wonderful world of Hùb Hàb aig an t-Siorcas (Hùb Hàb at the Circus).
For a fortnight from Monday May 13, young pupils in schools across 13 local authorities in Scotland had the opportunity to get involved in this interactive workshop as some try their hand at circus skills.
At the heart of the tour is Hùb Hàb, a lively character created by Fèisean nan Gàidheal who early years have enjoyed meeting since the project first toured in 2016 with performances over the years covering topics such as the garden, baking, nature, and the weather.
This year, Hùb Hàb will be played by Kit Rodman-Orr, a circus skills practitioner, performer, and director from Cumbernauld. Kit will guide the young audience with enthusiasm and energy as they learn about all the different skills found at the circus.
Speaking prior to the tour, Kit said: “I am really looking forward to this opportunity for young audiences to engage with Gaelic language in a really fun, immersive way, bringing music, movement and a bit of circus magic into schools."
Drama Officer Angus MacLeod, who devised the workshop, has also composed new songs for the tour. These catchy numbers will help children to latch on to new vocabulary as they utilise these new words throughout the workshop.
As well as appealing songs, resources connected with the subject were made available on Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s website (www.feisean.org/en/) to give the early years further opportunities to reinforce the new vocabulary learned.
Ealasaid MacDonald, Ceannard (Chair) of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, commented: "It’s great that children all over the country are being given the opportunity to engage with Gaelic in such a creative, fun environment. It’s so important that they get these kinds of opportunities as often as possible."
