Get out those cameras for Rotary photography contest

It has never been easier to be an amateur photographer with most of us carrying some sort of camera at all times, whether it's a smart phone, compact pocket camera or something a little more professional.

 

Budding young photographers are now in with a chance of winning prizes for their images thanks to the Rotary Club of Campbeltown which is launching a Young Photographer of the Year competition.

 

The theme is 'wild nature', which is ideal for us here in Campbeltown and Kintyre, where we are surrounded by nature and scenic beauty.

 

Alan Milstead, the Rotary's local co-ordinator, said: 'This competition gives us a great opportunity to showcase our area as well as an opportunity for younger residents to participate in a challenging competition without needing to worry about social distancing. Photographs can be taken using phones as well as cameras.'

 

There are three classes: junior for seven to 10-year-olds; intermediate for 11 to 13-year-olds and senior for 14 to 17-year-olds. Entrants must be within the age groups on August 31 2020.

 

Entry forms are available at the flower counter in Fresh Connection on Campbeltown's Main Street or by emailing campbeltownrotary@gmail.com.

 

The closing date is September 30 and entries should be left at the Argyll Hotel, Main Street, Campbeltown, in an envelope marked for the Rotary Club of Campbeltown and emailed to campbeltownrotary@gmail.com.

 

Photographs should be at least 5MB but not bigger than 15MB.

 

The winners in each category will get a prize and go forward to the district competition in the New Year.

 

If they are chosen as winners at that stage, they will go on to compete in the national finals in March 2021.

 

All entries will be part of an exhibition in the town.
