The MV Glen Sannox has been removed from service after a crack was discovered in the vessel’s hull.
CalMac have confirmed the vessel was removed from sailings earlier today, just two weeks after returning from planned works.
The crack was discovered on a weld seam on the vessel’s hull, which is close to the waterline.
A spokesperson for CalMac later has said the crack is now above the waterline and dry ahead of inspection tomorrow.
As a result of the issue, the Sannox’s sailings on Saturday have been cancelled.
CalMac added that MV Alfred’s passenger capacity has been extended effective on Saturday morning through until Monday.
A shuttle service will operate between Lochranza – Claonaig, and extra staff will be present at each side to support customers.
A CalMac spokesperson said: “We apologise for the disruption, and our port teams and customer engagement centre will be working hard to contact affected customers.”
The problem-plagued vessel had its first official sailing on January 13 from Troon after taking to the route years late.
It has been hailed as the solution to Arran’s long running transport headache, an issue which many now feel is impacting the island’s attractiveness to tourists.
