Golfers chase captain's prizes in Autumn Meeting

Perfect conditions prevailed for Dunaverty Golf Club's Autumn Meeting during which members chased the captain's prizes in the scratch and handicap sections.

 

Greenkeepers Jonathon Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne presented the course in excellent condition and the majority of players took full advantage of this.

 

Keith Crawford was in fine form, covering the front nine in 31 strokes and adding 35 on the inward nine to establish the lead in the scratch with his 66 and the handicap with a nett 63.

 

Ken MacMillan matched Keith's nett score but, having a better inward half, he edged in front and maintained his lead until Danny Halliday produced a great round, which included a hole-in-one at the par-three fourth, and moved to the front with a nett 62 looking a winner all the way.

 

It was not to be as Campbell MacBrayne who, despite being out cutting the greens at 6am, excelled himself with a 34 on the outward half and, helped by an eagle at the par-four 11th, hit 35 on the way in for a scratch total of 69 to give him a winning nett 61.

 

Due to illness, club captain Graeme McLennan was unable to attend but he supplied a bottle of whisky, voucher and a box of Titleist golf balls for the scratch and handicap winners.

 

The club thanked Ailie Goddard and her sister Rona in The Tea Box for coping so well with the catering.

 

In the absence of the captain, Vice-Captain Donald Brown presented the winners with their prizes.

 

Handicap result: 1 Campbell MacBrayne 69-8=61, 2 Danny Halliday 79-17=62, 3 Ken MacMillan 80-17=63 (better last six), 4 Keith Crawford 66-3=63, 5 John Wareham 84-20=64 (bih), 6 Donald McNeil 67-3=64.
