'Grab a grant' returns to help community groups clean up

Environmental charity The GRAB Trust has teamed up with Argyll and Bute Council in an effort to welcome staycation visitors and to keep Argyll and Bute looking at its best.

 

The eagerly anticipated grant scheme provides community groups with much-needed funds in the shape of litter picking grants, with both coastal and in-land litter picks qualifying.

 

The grant is open to applications from formally constituted community groups and schools.

 

Grants from £25 to £250 are available – the amount awarded is dependent on the scale of the litter pick.

 

Groups may apply for multiple awards, for multiple picks, up to the total of £250. A separate application will need to be made for each pick that is claimed.

 

Once applications made by an individual group reach £250, no more applications from that group will be accepted.

 

Speaking about the initiative, The GRAB Trust general manager Graham Love said,: 'The GRAB Trust and its partners recognise the importance of community action to keep Argyll and Bute looking lovely this summer.

 

'Together with community litter picking stations, free loan of litter picking equipment to groups and information, advice and guidance to retail food businesses and consumers, the charity is doing all it can to mount a concerted effort on litter reduction.

 

'The grant scheme is offered to thank communities for their efforts in organising litter picks and to support the work of the voluntary sector across Argyll and Bute.'

 

The trust and its partners have expanded on the staycation campaign of 2021 with new initiatives that aim to stop litter at its source which include two-minute litter picking stations, a waste-free takeaway campaign, ‘Be Part of The Cycle’ – reusable period product education for schools, ‘Waste No More’ – intergenerational skills sharing and upcycling workshops, outdoor beach and marine litter workshops for schools and coordination of litter-picks.

 

Grant applications are now open through an online form for litter picks taking place from now until funds run out.
