Arran High School S2 pupils donated £3,000 to Arran Cancer Support (ArCaS) after presenting their case at the annual Youth Philanthropic Initiative (YPI).
The initiative involves pupils staging presentations in support of their nominated charity, with the top five presentations going on to a final.
The charities represented at the event were ArCaS, AHS Mountain Bike Club, Guide Dogs, Arran Mountain Rescue Team, ACVS, Arran Music School, Arran Youth Foundations, Arran Churches Together Foodbank and Eco Savvy.
Deciding on the finalists were judges: Morganne McLachlan, modern studies teacher; Emile Charton, languages teacher; and S5 pupils Niamh Gosman, Kirsty Hume and Ben McCarthy.
The groups all delivered high standard presentations and it was difficult for the judges to pick five finalists.
They were: Arran Music School, represented by Julia Kulis, Harris McCormack, Jenny Monteith and Lachlan Smith; Arran Churches Together Foodbank, represented by Martin Campbell, Molly Cook, Julietta Gray and Eoin Jones; Arran Mountain Rescue Team, represented by Nye Bowen, Callum Glister, Daragh McNiven, Eva McRae and Nara Wood; ArCaS, represented by Kellen Craig, Borys Halejak, Lewis Kilcullen, Evie Steel and Molly Young; and Arran Youth Foundations, represented by Fraser Hackett, Freddie Lucas, Chloe McNeil, Rainbow Panther and Alyssa Simpson.
The finals kicked off with an opening speech by deputy head teacher Michelle Bunting. YPI lead teacher Mara Gosman then led the event which was attended by S2 and S3 pupils, the charities and parents.
The judging panel comprised local dignitaries, including the former head teacher Douglas Auld and assistant island officer, Brodie Pearcey, along with Michelle Bunting and pupils Ruby Winship and Chloe Willis.
While the judges deliberated, the audience was treated to musical performances from pupils under the leadership of music teacher Andrew Dickie.
Eventually, the judges emerged to announce the group representing ArCaS were the competition winners.
YPI Scotland co-ordinator Mark Chambers joined the winning pupils in presenting the charity representatives with a £3,000 cheque. The audience members helped celebrate the pupils’ achievement over tea, coffee and cake.
