The accreditation programme, run by national charity Scottish Book Trust, helps schools to build reading cultures for their learners and communities.
Reading for pleasure is central in supporting equity and wellbeing, improving attainment across the curriculum, and boosting critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience. 300 schools in Scotland have been accredited through the programme.
Kyleakin Primary have achieved the first level of Reading Schools accreditation, and are now working towards progressing to silver status.
The activities they did to earn their accreditation include creating book recommendation videos to share with their school community and hosting termly Booky Breakfasts.
Since Kyleakin achieved their accreditation, Kinlochbervie High School in Sutherland have also joined them as an accredited Reading School in the Highland region.
Grace, a pupil at Kyleakin, said: "I wasn’t really that into reading, it wasn’t a big deal to me, but Reading Schools has made me love it.
"Now when I’m bored I actually choose to read and I can get through whole books now in our class ERIC time."
Head teacher Mrs Jennifer Maclean said: "Our Reading Schools journey has been such a positive one.
"It has been lovely to watch the momentum and buzz around reading grow across the school and wider school community.
"Pupils are excited about reading, about sharing their reading and about using reading to extend their learning."
Marc Lambert, CEO of Scottish Book Trust, added: "Achieving a Reading Schools accreditation is a momentous achievement.
"We are thrilled to see schools across Scotland reach the milestone and look forward to supporting more schools as they develop vibrant reading cultures."
