Kenny’s family of Grants stem from Fort William and Brae Lochaber and he will relate the story of his two uncles who were captured on the same day by German forces in June 1940 at St Valery-en-Caux in Normandy.
They were Captain Reverend Kenneth Grant of the 4th Battalion of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and his younger brother Angus. Both were part of the 51st Highland Division and were marched across France and Germany and incarcerated as prisoners of war for five years in German prisoner of war camps.
Kenny is undertaking extensive research on their story and the many others of the 51st division in anticipation of his publishing a book on the fate of the division in WWII. Many local families had family members in the 51st and have their stories to tell.
A fascinating talk is promised at the talk which starts at 8pm. Everyone welcome. Non season ticket holders should phone Chris Robinson 01397 712150 or email creakingshelves@btinternet.com to book a ticket.
