Visitors have been flocking to the island on the first week of the school holidays with ferries running late because they are so busy.
But with the service still being operated at half capacity by the MV Isle of Arran there have been cancellations with visitors unable to get their cars on the ferry and several hotels and B&Bs and self catering accommodation providers have been offering last minute deals as a result.
VisitArran are encouraging visitors, who have had their bookings cancelled or have been unable to get a vehicle booking, to come on foot and use public transport, or take the long scenic route to the island via the Claonaig to Lochranza crossing, which is operating a shuttle service to try and ease some pressure on the main route.
Businesses, including cafes, bars and shops have been reporting brisk trade and, with the weather looking promising and lots happening on the island it is hoped the traditional beginning to the summer season on Arran will get the island summer season off to a flying start.
Meanwhile, the MV Caledonian Isles is still expected back in service on the Ardrossan to Brodick route on Thursday April 13, with the two ferry summer timetable due to start on Saturday May 6.
