ICD Contracting Ltd: 17 Years of Growth and Success
ICD Contracting Ltd has come a long way since its beginnings in 2007, when founder Iain Duncan launched ICD Tree Services to meet the needs of the forestry harvesting and arboriculture industries. Over the years, the business has expanded steadily, securing contracts with local estates and Forest and Land Scotland.
Recognising the need to diversify, Iain invested in the company’s first 8-ton excavator, allowing ICD to take on mounding and small-scale peatland restoration. As the workload grew, so did the need for a dedicated team. By 2015, a Rural Business & HSEQ Consultant had joined, alongside a full-time bookkeeper and office administrator, supporting the company’s continued expansion across the west coast of Scotland and the Inner Hebrides.
In 2021, reflecting its broader range of services—including forest establishment, fencing, invasive species control, groundworks, renewables, and agricultural contracting—the company rebranded as ICD Contracting Ltd. A full-time Commercial Director was appointed, along with a Works Manager and Administration Manager, ensuring strong leadership for the future.
Today, ICD operates a fleet of 12 excavators, including specialist low-ground-pressure machines ranging from 8 to 25 tons. With a highly skilled team of 29 employees, the company remains committed to providing stable, well-paid employment for local communities in Argyll and Kintyre. ICD also works closely with a commercial contract lawyer and a rural business specialist to support sustainable growth and innovation.
Looking ahead, ICD continues to expand and evolve, staying true to its mission of conservation, ecology, and environmental stewardship. As the company moves forward into the second half of the decade, it remains dedicated to leaving nature in a better place than it was found.
