Campbeltown Pupils 3
Kello Rovers 4
WOSFL Fourth Division
Despite leading 3-2 with only 90 seconds of injury time left the Pupils managed to lose 4-3 last Saturday with Kello Rovers scoring twice to leave everyone connected with the home club shattered.
Behind 2-0 at half time Campbeltown had fought back brilliantly in the second half before the late sucker blow.
Injuries and suspension left manager Norman Thomson a sparse squad to choose a starting line up from.
A poorly defended long throw in the 18th minute gave the visitors the lead, with the ball striking the back of a pupils defender into the net.
Finlay Bainbridge and Calum Eliss created several chances for the Pupils, and once again proving they can be a handful against any defence.
With the referee checking his watch for half time Kello doubled their lead with a free header at the far post to go into the break with a flattering lead.
Dominating the start of the second half, the Pupils pulled a goal back in the 57-minute when Ross Brown cleverly lobbed the keeper after a well-worked move.
The equaliser arrived in the 66th minute when substitute Andrew Renton outpaced the Kello defence to skilfully pick out Calum Eliss, who scored from close range.
In the 79th minute Finlay Bainbridge was hauled to ground a few yards outside the area to give the Pupils a free kick in a dangerous area.
Top goal scorer Calum Eliss stepped up and curled a wonderful effort up and over the defensive wall into the net to give the pupils a 3-2 lead.
The visitors threw everything at the Pupils and with the referee adding on an astonishing 10 mins of injury time it was a very nervy spell for the home defence.
And with only 90 seconds of injury time remaining they capitulated. A deflected shot spun off a heel of a Pupils’ player high into the net leaving Alisdair Ferguson helpless in goal.
Straight from the restart possession was given away for Kello to go on and score the winning goal in an incredible match.
This Saturday, February 15, the Pupils travel to South Larnarkshire to play Carluke Rovers with an increasing injury list and two suspended players that leaves manager Norman Thomson with a selection headache to contend with.
