Three Mid Argyll businesses are celebrating after triumphing in one of Scotland’s most prestigious tourism awards.
And Inveraray’s much-loved George Hotel took top spot, beating off huge competition to take home the National Inn of the Year award.
The 21st Hotels of the Year award ceremony was held in Glasgow on Wednesday February 26 following in-depth research that includes mystery visits, interviews and analysis of guest feedback.
At the gala reception tourism minister Richard Lochhead MSP said: "It’s a real privilege to join so many hotel businesses from all parts of Scotland at the prestigious Hotels of the Year Scotland awards. You represent the best of Scotland, the best of excellence and experience.”
Following the gala reception, at which The George Hotel was also presented with the regional whisky bar of the year award, owner Kirs Clark told the Advertiser: “’It is a hugely merited award to recognise the continued hard work and commitment from the team at The George. Thanks to all the staff.
“The business landscape is the most challenging in living memory, so it is vital we continue to offer good quality services and products that make us stand out against others.”
The George’s neighbours Brambles of Inveraray also achieved great success at the ceremony, being presented with the Casual Dining of the Year award.
Managing director Victoria Thomson said she was "delighted" with the award and credited the accolade to her team’s hard work.
“Brambles café is a big deal and the team work super hard when the place is jumping in the summer; it’s lovely for the team to get some recognition,” she said.
“Stuart and I started Brambles Café 22 years ago and through the years we have bought properties to let out as Brambles Hotel. We work really hard but couldn’t do it without a strong team behind us.”
And just along the road, fellow winners Loch Fyne Hotel and Spa were also celebrating, taking the accolade of Rural Spa Hotel of the Year.
General manager Niall O’Shaughnessy said: “It is an incredible honour. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of the Loch Fyne Hotel and Spa team, particularly our superb Shore Spa team, who are committed to providing each guest with an exceptional experience.”
