The Charles Hunter Trophy competition was held at Dunaverty Golf Club last Saturday, when a field of 22 gents competed for the prize with a par/bogey format – matchplay against the par of the course.
On a weekend where Glencruitten’s Bob MacIntyre performed well at the FedEx tour championship, Dunaverty’s own ‘lefty’, Kenneth Johnstone, played some inspired golf to take the title with a fantastic score of +3, meaning he beat the course three up.
Second place went to Danny Halliday with +1.
All players really enjoyed the unusual format of play and the fine weather conditions that prevailed on the day.
“Thanks to Moyra Paterson and staff at The Putt Stop for the usual high quality food and service and to greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne for their continued hard work despite some inclement weather,” said a club spokesperson.
Result: 1 Kenneth Johnstone +3, 2 Danny Halliday +1, 3 Douglas Neilson 0, 4 Hamish Kelly -1, 5= Harry MacLean and Jake Cameron -2.
Tomorrow (Saturday), sees the playing of the annual RNLI Open at Dunaverty with all proceeds from entry and raffle on the day going to Campbeltown Lifeboat Station.
