Kilmallie’s first ’Apple Day’ was a sweet success with people of all ages coming together to press delicious fruit juice and celebrate all things apple.
The fun-filled event was held at Kilmallie Community Centre on Saturday September 28 as part of the Highlands and Islands Climate Festival.
The day was run by Kilmallie Community Fridge & Garden in conjunction with Lochaber Environmental Group and the Highland Community Waste Partnership.
People brought apples of every shape and size to press and throughout the day all sorts of colours and flavours of juice were produced. The dehydrator was also churning out delicious apple crisps.
There was a gardening tool swap as well as a display of apples found in Lochaber gardens to showcase different varieties.
Those keen to grow their own apples were able to buy fruit bushes and trees and information about growing was provided by Drumfearn Trees in Skye.
After enjoying a refreshing cup of apple juice, youngsters were kept busy making apple inspired decorations at the craft table.
In the afternoon, Claire Holohan from West Highland Herbal ran a hands-on workshop exploring the health benefits of apples and she taught attendees how to make fire cider and apple cider vinegar.
Carol Anne Campbell, Kilmallie Community Fridge and Garden co-ordinator, said: "Our inaugural Apple Day at Kilmallie Community Centre was a great success. We had so many people wanting to juice their apples and at one point there was a queue to use the apple presses.
"It was a fab day, which we hope to do again. Many thanks to everyone who helped by donating time and apples and apple pressing equipment and to Lesley and Brenna from Lochaber Environmental Group and The Highland Community Waste Partnership for their partnership on this."
