Kilmartin Museum column - 13.12.24

The museum’s extraordinary setting in the historic glen is celebrated every week – come rain or shine - throughout the summer when guides lead groups on informative walks around the prehistoric monuments.

This year’s last guided tour of the glen’s fascinating landscape and heritage took place in October, and the museum would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to its team of fabulous, knowledgeable guides who lead the walks every Wednesday.

A big shout-out to our amazing guides who bring the past to life with free guided walks around the prehistoric monuments.

Thanks to Andy, Craig, Dan, Davie, Elvyn, Jim, Krissie, Rachael and Steve, for giving us their expertise and time, as well as being such a lovely team to work with.

Although the walks are over for this year, there is still plenty of excitement here at the museum.

We were delighted at the end of November to receive a highly-commended award in the public dissemination category in the Archaeological Achievement Awards.

 We are delighted to have been recognised with this accolade by the Council for British Archaeology.

It was a huge privilege to work with such an amazing team to develop and deliver the exhibition, but it is also testimony to the incredible archaeology of Kilmartin Glen that we were recognised with this prestigious, national award.

Kilmartin Museum will be open until December 22, after which it will remain closed until reopening on February 1 2025.
