Everyone at the museum was delighted to host 50 young people from the 19th Argyll Scout Group on October 29.
A whole host of activities enthralled the group’s 30 Scouts, 20 Explorer Scouts and six leaders. They enjoyed hands-on experiences including grinding grain, spinning wool and axe-head polishing.
The scouts explored the prehistoric monuments in Kilmartin Glen using the interactive map table and learned about the glen’s prehistoric landscape and the fascinating stories behind the artefacts in the museum’s collections.
Throughout the year the museum welcomes a diverse mix of groups, and we invite leaders to get in touch to discuss booking their own visit to Kilmartin.
The museum’s extraordinary setting in the historic glen is celebrated every week – come rain or shine - throughout the summer when guides lead groups on informative walks around the prehistoric monuments.
This year’s last guided tour of the glen’s fascinating landscape and heritage took place in October, and the museum would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to its team of fabulous, knowledgeable guides who lead the walks every Wednesday.
A big shout-out to our amazing guides who bring the past to life with free guided walks around the prehistoric monuments.
Thanks to Andy, Craig, Dan, Davie, Elvyn, Jim, Krissie, Rachael and Steve, for giving us their expertise and time, as well as being such a lovely team to work with.
Although the walks are over for this year, there is still plenty of excitement here at the museum.
We were delighted at the end of November to receive a highly-commended award in the public dissemination category in the Archaeological Achievement Awards.
We are delighted to have been recognised with this accolade by the Council for British Archaeology.
It was a huge privilege to work with such an amazing team to develop and deliver the exhibition, but it is also testimony to the incredible archaeology of Kilmartin Glen that we were recognised with this prestigious, national award.
Kilmartin Museum will be open until December 22, after which it will remain closed until reopening on February 1 2025.
All details about opening hours are on our website: Kilmartin.org, and any groups interested in visiting the museum should contact us at enquiries@kilmartin.org or call us on 01546 510278.
We wish you all a very merry festive season.
