Kintyre’s best cattle breeders reaped the rewards of their hard work when Kintyre Holstein Breeders Club and Kintyre Ayrshire Breeders Club held a joint herds competition last week.
The judge for the event, which was held across Monday and Tuesday, July 1 and 2, was dairy auctioneer Glyn Lucas from Carlisle.
The joint prize-giving ceremony was held in the Ardshiel Hotel on the Tuesday evening, with Mr Lucas announcing his awards, which included Kilkeddan winning the prize for best overall Holstein herd, and East Drumlemble winning the cup for best overall Ayrshire herd.
Kintyre Holstein Breeders Club: Small herds: 1 Kilkeddan. Large herds: 1 Drumalea, 2 West Backs, 3 Machrihanish. Individual: 1 Kilkeddan, 2 Drumalea, 3 Machrihanish. Production/Inspection: 1 Kilkeddan, 2 Kilkeddan, 3 Machrihanish. Best overall herd: Kilkeddan.
Kintyre Ayrshire Breeders Club: Large herds (Carrs Cup): 1 East Drumlemble, 2 Clochkeil. Small herds (GM Reid Cup): 1 Gartvaigh, 2 Machribeg. Overall herd (SAI Cup): 1 East Drumlemble. Individual cow (Volac Cup): 1 East Drumlemble, 138 Spruce Haven Alta TD (fourth calver); 2 Clochkeil, 186 Cuthill Towers Harry Potter (fourth calver); 3 Gartvaigh, 1600 Troutbeck Gigantic (second calver). Dam and daughter: 1 East Drumlemble, 2 Gartvaigh, 3 Clochkeil.
