Kintyre Chorale’s first sing-along was a resounding success, selling out Campbeltown Town Hall and raising thousands of pounds for the town’s helipad.
The audience participated with gusto from the beginning of the event on Thursday May 23, joining in the warm-up with choir conductor Mhairi Renton.
They continued in fine voice, singing along and dancing to songs from different genres including Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, a rousing selection of Abba hits and Africa by To To, culminating in Vida La Vida with full actions and the whole audience on their feet.
Campbeltown Grammar School’s girls’ group sang two songs, including an amazing rendition of Touch the Sky, and a quartet from Kintyre Chorale performed Billy Joel’s And So It Goes.
The event raised £2,610 which will be donated to South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) and the Robert Black Memorial Helipad, a charity close to the choristers’ hearts.
Eric Spence, manager of SKDT which owns and manages the town hall and helipad, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have hosted and be the beneficiaries of this event.
“We can’t thank Mhairi and Iona and the ladies of the Kintyre Chorale enough for putting on such a fantastic evening at the town hall. Everyone who attended enjoyed their night as they were singing their hearts out late into the evening.”
The Kintyre Chorale thank David McCallum and George Harrison for supporting its event with karaoke which provided a great opportunity for everyone to let their hair down and town hall staff for all their assistance in setting up the event.
