Scotland’s Climate Week runs from Tuesday September 26-Sunday October 1, and the South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) and Kintyre-based charity and business support organisation Inspiralba have crafted a busy calendar for Kintyre folk to find out more about ways to help combat climate change.
The two groups will host a workshop with Belfast-based graphic recorder and visual facilitator Stéphanie Heckman.
Ailsa Clark, founder and development manager, Inspiralba said: “Stéphanie brings experience from local to global yet her humble and reassuring approach helps learners feel at ease.
“Many of us fear not being creative enough to include drawings to work, but the approaches Stéphanie shares make it much less daunting and it is great to see stories and information come to life.
“Visual practice can really make the traditional note-driven meeting more interesting and dynamic.
“Training is funded by the Social Action Inquiry, therefore participation is free of charge.”
SKDT and Inspiralba plan to host the workshop activity next Thursday September 28, in Campbeltown with a practice day on Friday September 29.
Places are limited, but anyone interested in the learning opportunity is asked to email aclark@inspiralba.org.uk or call 07748674861.
A climate adaptation workshop is also taking place in the town hall next Friday September 29, from 12.30pm-2pm, through Climate Action Towns.
Two to three projects will be adopted to be added to SKDT’s current Community Action Plan for Campbeltown, which runs until 2027.
SKDT is continuing its quest to find ‘climate champions’ in the peninsula, through the work of Sharyn Lock, its newly appointed climate action development officer.
She is looking for volunteers to join in driving climate-minded change in the peninsula under the new campaign of Kintyre Climate Action.
The first get-together is planned for next Saturday September 30 in Campbeltown Town Hall chambers from 11am-1pm.
Sharyn said: “As a climate champion, you can be the conduit for your group, street or friends to access reliable, practical information and be inspired by exciting change already happening both near and far.
“Climate champions will have access to free online and in-person events, as well as one-to-one support and signposting as needed.
“Come along on the day or email climateaction@skdt.org with any questions beforehand.
“Before this, I would also invite anyone to come along tomorrow (Saturday September 23) to Carradale Village Fair from 1pm-4pm, to meet me in person, where I will be happy to chat with anyone about ideas and events.”
