Members of Kintyre Schools Pipe Band (KSPB) are on a high after enjoying another marvellous day at the annual Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships.
The band was one of 97 schools which went head-to-head vying for success across eight categories at Kilmarnock on Sunday March 10.
KSPB played twice and put in a couple of great performances in the novice B and freestyle categories.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, the Kintyre youngsters missed out on the prizes, being placed 8th – out of 24 bands – in the novice category and getting a string of positive comments from the freestyle judges.
In the freestyle event, band members added keyboards, flute, drum kit and a dancer and performed Kintyre’s version of Taylor Swift’s Love Story.
One of the judges, Craig Munro, said he was so taken with the arrangement that he plans to pinch it for his own band – the Red Hot Chilli Pipers!
Speaking to a capacity crowd, Calum Scott, senior drummer in the Kintyre band, thanked the judges for their helpful comments and the Scottish Schools Piping and Drumming Trust for organising such an enjoyable event.
Afterwards, Pipe Major Fiona Mitchell said: “I’m super proud of the team and the hard work they have put in over the past few months to make this happen.
“Our first outdoor contest will be Gourock on May 12. We are looking forward to the season ahead with this amazing talented bunch.”
