Kintyre Way is celebrating a fantastic summer season, with walkers from all over the world enjoying the scenic long distance walking route this year.
Spokesperson Dominic Ryan said: “The Kintyre Way is popular all-year round but, despite the unpredictable and changeable weather, summer has proved to be a vibrant and busy season.
“In sunshine and in rain, the 100 waymarked miles from Tarbert in the north to Southend in the south have provided a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the many fantastic sights, sounds and colours of Kintyre!
“August, in particular, was extremely popular, in part thanks to the month-long Kickstarters programme. This was a fun celebration of the walk’s summer highlights, with volunteers from the Friends of the Kintyre Way hosting a series of extra-special August walks.
“Each of the seven Kickstarters provided the perfect introduction to exploring shorter sections of the Way and we’d like to say a big ‘thank you!’ to all of the Friends who made this possible.”
As we move into autumn, plans are already well underway to replace the information boards along the route, ensuring walkers have fun and up-to-date information about the wonderful places they are passing through.
This year has also seen the introduction of new official merchandise.
As well as branded beanies and T-shirts, walkers can now purchase tin mugs, topflask drinking bottles, car stickers and the ‘Rucsacs Kintyre Way Guide’.
An extra-special addition for 2024 are Campbeltown Pottery mugs which have been specially commissioned and created by local craftsman Simon Rochford and are available at Earra Gael in Tarbert, Carradale Community Shop and the Campbeltown Pottery shop.
Coming soon, too, is the Kintyre Way ‘passport’, which can be obtained on request via the enquiry form on the walk’s website at thekintyreway.com
The passport has space to collect seven brass rubbings, which will be located midway on each section of the route and pinpointed via a what3words map reference.
‘Finishers’ who complete their passport ‘stamps’ will not only get a certificate but also a free, specially labelled Kilkerran whisky miniature.
This certificate also allows walkers to purchase an official ‘finisher’ T-shirt at The Courier Centre in Campbeltown or a special box of treats from the town’s world-renowned Fetcha Chocolates.
