Kintyre youngsters excelled against almost 80 competitors from primary schools across the region at last week’s Argyll and Bute Primary Schools Badminton Championships.
Players from Dunoon, Inveraray, Lochnell, Lochgoilhead, Lochgilphead and Kintyre participated in the competition, held at Lochgilphead Joint Campus on Thursday March 7.
Kintyre swept the boards in the girls’ singles competition, with Robyn Wright emerging as the winner and Lois McCallum runner-up.
Lois then teamed up with Molly Lamont to win the girls’ doubles event, with Robyn and her partner Ffion Lavery-Jones runners up.
With almost 50 entries in the boys’ singles competition, Kintyre’s Thomas Millar played extremely well to clinch the win, beating Gregor Davies from Lochnell in the final.
Jack Reid and Finlay Wright from Campbeltown reached the final of the boys’ doubles but narrowly lost out to Ewan Cairns and James Ledson from Kirn.
To round off a great day for Kintyre, Harry Ronald and Robyn Wright went on to win the mixed doubles competition, with Thomas Millar and his partner Molly Lamont runners up.
Many of the games were keenly contested and, at the end of a successful day, the prizes were presented by Ms S Gilchrist, the Primary 6/7 teacher at Lochgilphead Joint Campus.
