Fort William Reserves 1
West Highland Amateur Football League
Mallaig cemented their place above Fort William Reserves in the West Highland Amateur League with a comfortable midweek victory in the Lochaber derby, writes Peter Newman.
The Fort team were confident, having beaten bottom of the table Kyle 8-0 in the previous round, but Mallaig would prove a far sterner test.
Two goals each from attackers Chris Lee and former Fort William player Andrew Sneddon set the tone before Gordy Jamieson added a fifth.
In response, Calum Maclean, aged 16, displayed excellent composure to score his second penalty in as many games.
Fort William reserve coach Matthew Prosser said: “Mallaig is always a tough game. This year has been about establishing ourselves as a team and each game the boys play in, you can see the coaching is paying off. Compared to our previous season, this team has achieved so much.
“The dedication they have put in to show up for training and away games is unbelievable and all the backroom staff here are proud of them.”
Fort William's next fixture is at home on the Lochaber High School astro against Sleat and Strath in the Ross Cup on Friday July 14.
