Several people have tested positive in the past week or so and have been self-isolating, says Dr Mandie Currie from Lismore Community Council's Emergency Response Group
'So far, we are not aware of any further cases and are hopeful the outbreak can be contained,' she said.
Businesses affected closed voluntarily, ahead of the test and trace system being initiated.
Increase in visitors made it 'probably inevitable' infections would reach the island eventually, said Dr Currie, who urged people to keep up their guard by washing hands, social distancing and letting fresh air in to buildings.
She added: 'We welcome visitors here to enjoy our beautiful island, but please remember to take your rubbish, recycling and human waste with you when you leave.'
