Yes Lochaber made a colourful statement on Saturday at the Old Fort with a display of
all 27 flags of the EU member states, and a banner declaring ‘we miss you EU’ with a star for each EU member.
A spokesman for Yes Lochaber said: “Our display prompted lots of supportive toots from passing cars, people like us who are unhappy that Scotland was dragged out of the EU against the democratic will.
"Leaving the EU has been massively damaging to the UK in so many ways. Brexit is contributing hugely to the cost of living crisis, our Scottish exports have been reduced and we are having staffing issues in every sector of society.
"We wanted to show that we care about our democratic rights, and we care about Europe. We’d like to see the ability to decide on Scotland’s future relationship with
Europe placed securely in the hands of Scottish citizens.”
Members of Yes Lochaber also staged a torchlight procession from the Old Fort on the evening of the anniversary itself, which they described as a vigil for what Scotland has lost by being taken out of Europe, and at the same time holding a light for, they hope, a return to Europe if that is the democratic choice of the people of Scotland.
