Lochaber Housing builds young people up to take on new challenges

A number of young people have successfully gained employment after being given quality training opportunities as part of Lochaber Housing Association modern apprenticeships.

 

Last week they wished good luck to Charis Sneddon, who played a key role with Lochaber Care and Repair.

 

Charis has secured a position as a health care support worker with NHS Highland for six months. She will then progress to a degree course in adult nursing care at university.

 

She said: 'Supporting the elderly and vulnerable has encouraged me to pursue my career further and work within the nursing sector. I have gained valuable life skills during my apprenticeship with Lochaber Care and Repair and I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me.'

 

Another success story is Siobhan Toal, who is staying within the organisation for a further two years.

 

She will continue to build on her confidence and skills within corporate services as the association rolls out its new IT system.

 

Acting chief executive Margaret Moynihan said: 'An apprenticeship qualification is something that we at the association are very passionate about.

 

'Our continued investment in the young people of Lochaber, both in trade and modern apprenticeships, means apprentices can earn while they learn and develop invaluable skills for both their current and future jobs.'
