Christmas is coming and thanks to various community groups, organisations and businesses Fort William and the surrounding area are just about all lit up and ready to go.
Despite some rather inclement weather last weekend large crowds turned out for light switch-ons in Fort William Town Centre on Friday night followed by the Lochaber Rotary reindeer parade and fair and Upper Achintore tree switch-on (see report in next week’s Lochaber Times) on Saturday and Caol’s big Christmas event on Sunday.
We cannot praise enough the people responsible for making all this happen and bringing joy into many people’s lives after what has been for many another difficult year.
Fort William Festive Fund Team, Lochaber Rotary, Upper Achintore Regeneration Croup and Caol Residents Group to name but a few pulled out all the stops to make sure communities around the town get a chance to sample the magic of Christmas on the run up to the big day.
The generosity of those very same communities has been noted also. Without their donations and other contributions whether it be time or effort these events would simply not happen.
Resident of all ages and abilities contributed massively and should all be commended.
And we are not finished yet. Tomorrow night, Friday November 6, at 7pm Kilmallie Christmas Lights Group are holding a Switch-on Ceremony in Corpach. So if you missed any of last weekend’s events there is still a chance to get into the Christmas spirit.
