Lochaber High School student Lucy has been offered a place at Chetham's School of Music’s summer school playing her bass clarinet. The course offers ‘instrument workshops and personalised guidance, singing, musicianship and ensemble music playing, with performance opportunities on a professional concert hall stage’.
Lucy, from Achdalieu, said: “There are not many opportunities to play in ensembles in the Highlands and I feel this is a great chance to improve my playing and meet new people from other musical backgrounds.”
Karen Thomson, Principal Music Instructor with High Life Highland’s Music Tuition Service, said Lucy is a talented and enthusiastic musician who plays a vital part in the well-established wind band programme run by High Life Highland music instructors.
“I was delighted to hear Lucy had applied for the summer course which will allow her to build on and refine her technical skills as well as benefitting from the wonderful new experience of performing with a full orchestra," she said.
"Many thanks to Lochaber Rotary for its generous financial contribution towards this important and exciting opportunity in Lucy's musical development."
Rotary President Flora McKee said the club was delighted to contribute £500 from the Kenneth J Macpherson Memorial Trust for Young Musicians of Lochaber, now administered by Rotary, towards Lucy’s course in Manchester.
She added: “This is an important course that will benefit Lucy and broaden her musical education. We are very pleased to support her.”
