Lochaber Swim Team held their annual awards on Friday February 28 at the Fort William Shinty Club.
The Club, as usual, performed above that expected from one of the smallest clubs in Scotland.
At the recent North District Championships in Aberdeen, the club had 10 swimmers who qualified. Almost a third of the club.
Mya MacCallum, Charleigh Adams, Olivia McManus, and James Exeter all qualified for finals.
At the National Championships five LSC members competed.
Calum Stewart joined the district finalists, and he won more medals in the front crawl to add to those achieved in previous years.
Mya MacCallum also made it to her Scottish final.
Not surprisingly, Calum Stewart and Mya MacCallum were awarded the Best Swimmers of the Year awards.
Most Improved 15 years and under were given to Amarah Mathieson and Ruairidh MacMaster.
Most Improved 12 years and under were awarded to Willow Mitchell and Hugo Ford.
Most Committed Young Swimmer was awarded to Trinity Lawrence.
The Fastest 100m Front Crawl of the year accolade went to Calum Stewart for his 55:00 second effort (also the fastest time ever achieved in over 50 years of Lochaber swimming).
Mya MacCallum’s 1:05:56 was just faster than four other quick swims from sister Yasmin MacCallum, Charleigh Adams, Olivia McManus and Lauren Jones.
That concluded the annual awards.
Medals were also given out for the recent club championships sprints.
The age group winners were as follows:
Girls:
9 years old: Eilidh Ewing
10 years old: Willow Mitchell
11 years old : Darcey Dunlop
12 years old : Lily Can’t
13 years old: Bronte Mann
14 years old : Macy Morris
15 years old : Mya MacCallum
16 years old : Olivia McManus
Boys:
9 and under : Jeremy Czapla
10 years old : Hugo Ford
11 year old : James Exeter
14 years old : Ruairidh MacMaster
To conclude, the night Robert and Tracey MacCallum were given a gift in recognition of their years of supporting the club.
Lochaber Swim Team would like to thank all the volunteers involved with making the small club a successful one.
