Pupils at Lochnell Primary School have been learning all about road and cycling safety, with some special help from a major construction company.
On Thursday November 14 Lochnell Primary School welcomed Breedon for the day to work with all learners.
Following a successful Bikeability course with Primary 7s in September, teachers wanted to provide the opportunity for learners to develop their understanding of road safety and cycling safety on our rural roads.
Breedon’s visiting staff were "excellent" in explaining the work they did to the youngsters and the dangers their heavy vehicles can pose for cyclists.
They covered the engineering of roads, transportation of raw materials and also conducted a safety workshop around and in a huge Breedon lorry which the children loved sitting in.
Being in the lorry allowed all learners a chance to think about blind spots and what lorry drivers can and cannot see from high up in the lorry cab.
Breedon’s staff also provided all learners with a Hi-vis vest to wear when out and about on dark nights.
Mrs Emma Rossiter Principal Teacher said that this visit was particularly beneficial to the older learners who cycle or walk to school and need to ensure their safety when out walking or cycling on single track roads.
