As reported earlier this year in the Lochaber Times, 16-year old Ardnamurchan High School student Jack Bungey won the accolade of the Rotary-sponsored Lochaber Young Musician of the Year at senior level.
This annual event took place at the Lochaber Music Festival in March at the Nevis Centre.
In an enthralling 20-minute session at last week’s Lochaber Rotary business lunch meeting, pianist Jack performed Debussy’s Arabesque No 1 and “The Little Shepherd” followed by Christopher Norton’s upbeat New Kid.
His gentle and romantic rendition of Arabesque was well received by the audience and his performance of The Little Shepherd displayed a really delicate and graceful piece telling the story of a little shepherd guiding his flock through the meadow. It was lovely.
Jack’s final number was a complete contrast to his classical pieces – a really challenging upbeat performance of Chris Norton’s “New Kid” which had the audience rocking in their seats.
Jack is entering his 5th year at Lochaber High School and is considering making a career in music. School Music Teacher, Jillian Campbell, said that Jack is an outstanding musician and added: “This achievement is well deserved.
“We are looking forward to seeing what more he will achieve in the coming years.”
