Sheriff Euan Cameron told an 18-year-old that he would be placed on a community payback order as a direct alternative to going to jail.
During the 12-month order, the man must work with his supervising officer.
“You were 16 when you committed these offences, you are now 18; someone your age has a greater chance of rehabilitation,” said the sheriff.
The young man, who cannot be named as it would identify his victim who is a former partner, committed the offences in Oban and Campbeltown between October and November 2023.
He admitted making calls of a grossly offensive, or indecent, obscene or menacing manner, and threatening violence; and to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at a Campbeltown address, shouting swearing uttering threats of violence and smashing a glass.
“These are unpleasant offences,” said the sheriff.
