Modern Apprentice event a huge success

More than 200 youngsters from across North Ayrshire turned out at an event to find out more about Modern Apprenticeships.

 

The event, held in Dreghorn last week, was hosted by North Ayrshire Council to showcase the range of opportunities available to young people aged 16-19 looking to get their feet on the career ladder.

 

On the day, a number of council services including paralegal, arboriculture, bereavement, housing, procurement, business admin, childcare, professional cookery, horticulture, vehicle maintenance and health & social care, held a stall at the event to meet and chat to interested young people.

 

Around 87 Modern Apprenticeship positions are currently available at the council and young people interested in applying for any of the posts were able to make use of computers available at the event. Expert employability and skills staff were also on hand to offer their advice and support during the application process.

 

The event formed part of the council’s commitment to providing 250 Modern Apprenticeships for local youngsters over three years.

 

Councillor Alex Gallagher, cabinet member for economy, said: 'We are delighted with the fantastic turnout at the event and the resulting number of applications received. It demonstrates a clear appetite for work and skills enhancement from our young people and we are hugely encouraged by this.

 

'As a council, we are committed to promoting and encouraging young people into work or further education.  And our ambitious Modern Apprenticeship programme is a great opportunity for our young people to take that first step into the world of work after they leave school as they provide a chance to learn new skills while getting used to a working life.

 

'I look forward to welcoming the successful candidates in the coming weeks and would encourage others to keep an eye out for future opportunities.'
