A Scottish MSP has said he shares the worries of Kintyre people about a surge of wind farm applications across the peninsula.
Highlands and Islands MSP Tim Eagle was the sole elected representative, apart from local community councillors, to attend a meeting held in Tarbert last Tuesday, at which local residents discussed their concerns.
Mr Eagle said: “People here in Kintyre are passionate about the quality of their environment, and no wonder: it’s a truly special place.
“So, it isn’t surprising that there is such concern about the proliferation of wind farm applications which, if approved, would have a very significant visual impact.
“Making it worse is a fear that any objections they may have – however well-founded – will just be brushed off by decision-makers who know little about the area and have possibly never even been here.”
He added: “I believe that the whole system needs to be changed, with more consideration, and influence, given to local people about what actually happens in their communities.
“I will be taking these concerns to Holyrood and will be pressing ministers to take more seriously the concerns of local people with a greater priority given to consultations taking place in the areas concerned.”
On Monday, October 14, Lochgilphead Community Council will hold their monthly meeting at 7pm in the MS Centre, Lochgilphead. The meeting will consider the community’s concerns about the proliferation of wind farms and applications around the Mid Argyll area during the meeting, as part of the Office Bearers reports.
