Islanders views on the new Mull Campus have been compiled in Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Engagement Analysis Report.
The council tallied all responses, noting how often topics were mentioned by the 352 respondents.
The location of Mull’s new school was the most contentious issue.
Comments were plentiful, one from Ulva said: "The 2-18 and like for like campus is the biggest flaw – you need to split it so the primary remains in Tobermory.
"It doesn’t suit the communities, it suits your affordability."
Another from Tobermory said: "Pre-school and primary children in Tobermory must be able to attend school in the village in which they live.
"Unfortunately this has to trump all the potential benefits of locating a new school more centrally (which would likely benefit secondary pupils)."
The report revealed a split campus was the most popular solution, but the council had deemed that option unaffordable.
Retaining a primary school and early learning centre in Tobermory is supported by 39 per cent of respondents.
This response was the most popular in Tobermory, Bunessan, Lochdonhead, Dervaig, and Ulva.
Salen and Craignure supported a central location at 48 and 78 per cent respectively.
Bunessan parents, concerned about another northern campus, said: "We recognise the role Oban High School has had for our young folk, but here we have the opportunity to have our children live at home.
"This is a very normal thing; we are not calling for anything extraordinary.
"We believe that [the council] need to find a two-site solution, maintaining a primary school and early learning centre (ELC) in Tobermory and a centrally located high school that can be accessible to the whole island."
General support remains for an equitable solution accessible for all such as a central high school - over half of the responses mention this, but the importance of a primary and ELC in Tobermory has overshadowed this for many.
The council was flooded with comments about keeping families together.
Contributors also raised concerns with the conditions of the roads and the lack of buses on the island. Long journey times were also a worry.
Other issues include: accessibility, ease of access with plenty of parking and drop-off spots, access to facilities and the potential for an expanded curriculum.
In a statement, Mull Community Council (MCC) said: "Both options [a 2-18 campus in Tobermory and in Craignure] are unfair, inequitable, and may even constitute a breach of the Human Rights Act.
"If the high school is built in Tobermory, there will likely be a continuing downward trend in primary school numbers in the south of the island. Conversely, if a central location is chosen for the full campus, a similar depopulation could be seen in Tobermory."
"The LEIP (Learning Estate Investment Programme) application says, ’it must be recognised that this is a facility for the whole island’.
"MCC are worried that this intention, and the strategic objective around depopulation in the Scottish Government’s National Islands Plan, are being ignored.
"MCC would hope that, in our unique circumstances, the government funding would look to cover up to 50 per cent of the cost of whatever solution works best, even if this means some facilities are duplicated."
The council’s shortlist of potential sites will be released in December, with a decision reached shortly after.
The council’s policy lead for education, Councillor Audrey Forrest, said: "Many people expressed a desire for two separate campuses; a secondary and primary, but we have to be realistic about what we can achieve with the funding available.
"It is clear there are mixed views on many aspects and we will need to seriously consider several factors as we prepare to move forward to the next stage."
