The mystery fishermen who came to the rescue of people stranded when the Isle of Gigha ferry was suspended last week have been identified.
The creel fishers made headlines when Gigha resident Kenny Wilson spoke of his gratitude towards the men, who he does not know, for generously transporting him and a group of people from Tayinloan to Gigha after the island’s ferry was pulled from service due to an engine fault which has since been fixed.
This week, Gigha fisherman Archie MacAlister got in touch to tell us the kind-hearted creelers were his friends Liam Tinney and Sean Taylor, and that he arranged the transfer.
“I was returning to Gigha after landing my lobster and crab catch in Tarbert, carrying several packs of frozen bait for the week ahead,” said Archie.
“I spotted Liam and Sean, friends of mine, walking up the pier. I asked them if they would be willing to do a run across to Gigha and they were very happy to do so, which was much appreciated by myself.
“They were happy to carry the three passengers waiting as well, including Kenny Wilson.”
