Brodick Recycling Centre will be going digital with a new booking system next year.
For now, householders can turn up at any time during opening hours but there can be long queues at peak times so the new system set to be introduced at all North Ayrshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres should make visits smoother and quicker.
North Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet gave approval to the the digital system at the start of this month.
The system will allow customers to book slots at a time convenient to them and this will help staff give a hand to offload waste safely and correctly, minimising contamination and improving recycling.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said: “It is key that we get a system which not only works for our residents but also for the hard-working staff who provide a fantastic service.
“We know that similar digital booking systems in other parts of the country have received positive feedback and we are looking to build on that best practice.
“One of the main benefits we would expect residents to notice is the reduction of long queues at sites, particularly at peak times. Often, people will go to an HWRC and find themselves stuck in a line of cars.
“By having a pre-booked slot, we should see fewer queues, shorter waiting times and an all-round better service. “Additionally, we should see significant environmental benefits with fewer emissions from vehicles sitting in traffic and better recycling with a reduction in cross-contamination of waste.”
It is expected that the new digital booking system will be implemented in the spring of 2025, information on how to book a slot will come in advance.
