The traffic control measures have been added to several kilometres of road that were considered a safety risk due to inconsiderately and dangerously parked vehicles. A £100 penalty notice charge and possible uplifting is in place for any illegally parked vehicles.
The measures were introduced by the Highland Council after consultation with the B8008 Working Group, which was established in 2020 to help deal with road issues arising from the area's popularity with tourists.
A spokesperson for the working group said people with motorhomes, campervans or planning to pitch tents on the beach needed to be particularly aware that the lines mean no parking at any time.

The spokesperson said: “We are acutely aware of the significant demand and uplift in motorhome/campervan ownership and rental/hire vehicles in recent years and the area caters well for this popular choice of holidaying.
“The B8008 Morar-Arisaig stretch of coastline has approximately 10 designated sites, most facilities have direct access to the beaches, and people can enjoy the amazing views, sunsets, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere, whilst supporting local businesses and keeping the roads, designated car parks and parking bays on the route for their intended purpose."
Amongst the facilities available for drivers are a newly refurbished car park with toilets at Silver Sands, a 15 vehicle car park at Camusdarach, and parking, toilet and waste disposal facilities in Mallaig.
Overnight parking for motorhomes is not allowed at Camusdarach and at the West Bay parking in Mallaig.
