People young and old are jumping for joy after eight new pieces of play equipment were added to Carradale Activity Play Park.
The play park committee launched an appeal to raise £70,000 to upgrade Wellpark playground after it was closed due to safety concerns, with children and parents forced to make a 30-mile round trip to visit their nearest play park.
Among various fundraising initiatives, resident Marlene Baillie signed up to run the West Highland Way Race, a 95-mile ultra-marathon from Milngavie to Fort William, to help give the youngsters the play park they deserve.
With the new equipment now in situ, the children who have tried it are full of praise.
Willie Jack Semple gave the facility a 10/10 review and said the new see-saw is his favourite piece of equipment, while Rory Semple loves the tunnel playhouse and the noisy xylophone.
The climbing frame is a favourite for Rebecca Wragg, with Aurora Jonas describing the entire park as “amazing”.
Parents are equally impressed, with one saying: “Finally we have a park we can be proud of.”
A spokesperson for the Carradale Activity Play Park committee said: “It is important to have such a facility in the area, not only for the resident children but for tourism, which is an important part of the local economy.
“East Kintyre Community Council is working with Carradale Community Trust to develop a Local Development Plan for 2025-2030; it is important to try and attract young families to move into the area and this is just a small part of this plan.
“We would like to thank our funders, Cour Wind Farm Trust, East Kintyre Wind Farm Trust, Carradale Community Benefit Fund and everyone who sponsored Marlene Baillie during her West Highland Way Race.”
The committee will be continuing to fundraise to be able to pay for the annual maintenance of the park.
