The competition took place throughout the day in magnificent sunshine with no wind on a course beautifully prepared, once again, by greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne.
The scratch prize was secured in the very first group when George MacMillan returned a superb gross 66 to set a target which stood until the end – despite valiant efforts from Lee Mathieson, Alistair McConnachie and Robert Coffield.
However, the captain's prize – supplied by club captain Donald Brown (Southend) – was won by Stuart McLachlan with a superb round of nett 58, a result that has been coming all season and was long overdue.
A round which included 7 x 3s was just rewards for a club member who makes the six-hour round trip most Saturdays from Oban to Southend to play in and support the club competitions, enjoying the company of his fellow members each week.
'Thanks for that Stuart,' said a club spokesperson, 'your efforts are much appreciated by all.
'The club was also delighted to see the opening last weekend of our new club stewards' venture – The Putt Stop – and huge thanks go to Moyra Jane Paterson and her team for a fantastic start to our partnership and we all look forward to what has still to come.'
Result: 1 Stuart McLachlan 74-16=58, 2 John McKinlay 72-11=61, 3 John Galbraith 76-14=62 (bih), 4 Daniel Sargent 77-15=62, 5 Robert Coffield 69-6=63, 6 Jim Williamson 80-16=64 (bih). Lowest gross: George MacMillan 66.
