Orcadian journey for Argyll food producers

A 10-strong delegation from Argyll’s growing food and drink producer group took part in a fact-finding visit to Orkney in April, meeting up with 10 like-minded folk from Shetland Food and Drink to meet producers on Orkney.

 

The trip was organised by the three regional food groups to see what can be learned from the Orcadians, who boast a strong and long-standing track record for promoting their indigenous produce, and to share ideas and gain inspiration.

 

The groups co-ordinators have often met at trade shows and in virtual groups but the chance to meet in person came about thanks to funding from Highland and Islands Enterprise and a shared desire to widen the contact group.

 

Emma Goudie from Islay, co-ordinating the visit for Food from Argyll said: 'We are delighted to be able to take a group of producers from the length and breath of Argyll on this journey to bring back ideas and inspiration and share our experiences with our hosts and the Shetlanders.

 

'Having had a tough few year our food producers have emerged ready to grow and thrive and we’re sure the trip will provide inspiration, the possibility of new supply chains and trading relationships, and who knows what else.'

 

The Argyll producers included Argyll Coffee Roasters, Isle of Mull Cheese, Slainte Sauces, Islay Cocoa and Bute Kitchen.
