BID4Oban's Kay MacDonald writes: 'Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year to everyone from the team at BID4Oban.
After a difficult few years for everyone it’s time to hope that 2022 will bring better things for all of us.
Despite the restrictions it’s been good to see how the people of Oban have pulled together to support each other and its business community. I’ve been very proud to be part of such a caring town in the last wee while and I know that Oban will continue and grow as a place where people can turn to each other for help.
We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us during the last year, all the
wonderful volunteers who made bringing Storm to Oban possible, the Northern Lighthouse Board, the Auxiliary Coastguard, Scottish Sea Farms and Oban FM who made the amazing Fireworks possible and Oban Rotary Club, Oban Lions Club, Oban Pipe Band, Oban FM, OES, Oban Police and everyone who contributed to the Reindeer Parade.
Thanks must also go to everyone who has supported and helped us in other ways, without everyone working together and contributing none of it would be possible.'

Oban RNLI
We know that every time our crew steps onboard the lifeboat, they hope for a good outcome, but sadly this isn’t always the case.
This Christmas will be the same as any other day for our selfless volunteers both here in Oban and at every other lifeboat station around the country. They’ll be standing by ready to leave loved ones behind to answer the call, each time hoping to reunite another family and see those in trouble at sea, safely returned.
With thousands of volunteers around the UK and Ireland, each RNLI crew member signs up to save every one from drowning – it has been the charity’s mission since 1824.
Over the past decade, RNLI lifeboats have launched over 1,200 times during the festive period. But these rescues would not be possible without donations from the RNLI’s generous supporters, helping to fund the essential kit, training and equipment needed by lifeboat crews all year round.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of Oban RNLI throughout 2021. 2022 is a hugely significant year for our station as we celebrate 50 years of saving lives at sea. We ask that, if you can, please support our charity to help us continue our work for the next 50 years and beyond!

Robbie Drummond, managing director of CalMac
We can all agree that 2021 has been an extremely eventful and challenging year, and these challenges are continuing for all of us.
I am sorry for the high number of disruptions experienced this year. Delivering a high-quality lifeline service to the communities we serve every day is our top priority and we will continue to work hard to improve the resilience of our service.
We have invested record sums in maintaining and upgrading our vessels and have successfully delivered a number of improvements in relation to how we will maintain our fleet into the future.
We want customer experience to be at the heart of our services, and we are working to improve the way in which customers interact with us with the launch of a new ticketing system and a new digital platform, which will make the booking process smoother and more efficient. These will both be introduced in 2022.
While many people get to enjoy time off with their family over Christmas, many of our crew members will be working during the festive season to ensure we keep passengers moving and communities connected.
We have an extraordinary team working for CalMac who care deeply about our communities and the service we provide. I am proud of every one of them and thank them for their continued commitment and support.
