Organiser bowled over by Ukraine fundraiser support

The organiser of a fundraiser for Ukrainian refugees has described Campbeltown's kindness and generosity as 'second to none'.

 

Helen Gilchrist of The Jolly Monday Show thanked the community for helping raise more than £1,100 at a coffee afternoon at Campbeltown Bowling Club last Saturday.

 

A mountain of delicious baking was snapped up in no time but the most sought after goods on offer were mugs featuring sunflowers – Ukraine's national flower – in blue and yellow, the war-torn country's national colours.

 

Made and donated by Lesley Mullen of Little Star Creations, Helen said the mugs 'flew out the door', along with the tantalising sweet treats.

 

'A huge thank you to everyone who donated baking, raffle prizes and money,' she said, 'as well as all the helpers, especially the bowling club ladies and Elizabeth McCallum, the coffee queen.

 

'It was lovely to see everyone enjoying the day and, of course, raising an amazing amount of money, with donations still coming in.'

 

If any Ukrainian refugees are housed in Campbeltown in the next few months, Helen hopes to donate the money directly to them to help them get settled.

 

'If not, it will go to the orphaned children who are now in Scotland,' she said.

 

'I had no idea how the coffee afternoon would go but there was no need to worry as the place was packed.

 

'The town folk never let you down. Their kindness and generosity is second to none. Thank you Campbeltown.'
