Panto In Scrubs raises laughs and money

Hospital staff have handed over a £600 cheque to Martyn's Monday Club from this year's Panto In Scrubs production.

 

More than 20 staff at Lorn and Islands Hospital from junior doctors to consultants, nurses to physiotherapists and clerical workers got together as a cast to put on a performance of Peter Pan for one night only at Oban High School in February.

 

They got back-up support from other colleagues who helped out with scenery, props,costumes, make-up, music, sound and prompting.

 

Writer and director Sandra Melville said: 'It is a great morale-booster for the hospital and the audience had a great time, raising £850 in the process.'

 

Seil-based Malawi charity Seed for Life was also given £250 from the show that entertained family and friends.

 

Panto In Scrubs have been performed every second year across almost two decades.

 

Robert Cruickshanks from Martyn's Monday Club said: 'The money will go into our funding pot to help our wok in Oban. Thank you very much.'

 

The club is urging people to wear its red and blue wristbands to make a stand against stigma surrounding mental health and to show support for suicide prevention. The bands are available in Oban from Cafe Shore and the Greener Store at the train station.

 

Martyn's Monday Club meets at New Hope Kitchen every Monday from 7pm to 9pm, the women's club meets at the same time, same place on Tuesdays.
